There are rare instances when your DisplayTen may need a manual update.
If you find yourself in that position (i.e. no internet connection available, etc) there is an easy, reliable way of getting it done. Realize, whenever you see the world "manual", it usually means there is some level of do-it-yourself involved. Regardless, DisplayTen makes it easy if you can follow some basic instruction.
What you will need:
- A DisplayTen - get yours here (you won't regret it! <shameless plug>)
- The latest update file (contact us to get them)
- An empty thumb drive (with at least 1GB of space)
Step 1: Make sure you have the latest update for your DisplayTen. If you are not sure or need to obtain them, contact DisplayTen before attempting this update because it won't work without it - By the way, the update is specific to your screen size so try to keep that in mind when requesting so we can be sure and give you the right version. We're pretty good about reminding people, but just in case.
Step 2: So, you contacted DisplayTen and retrieved the latest update for your display. Now you need to put those files onto the thumb drive (we mentioned you would need one above). To do that, you first need to unzip the file we sent you. Then take the folder "iip" that comes out of the zip folder and put it on the thumb drive. Check real quick to make sure your thumb drive now has a single folder "iip" with 4 files inside that folder. If so, move on to the next step. If not, we will help.
Step 3: You should now have a thumb drive with the update files loaded onto it. Last thing we need to do is turn your DisplayTen off. insert the thumb drive into your DisplayTen's usb 2.0 slot on the side of the unit. The USB 2.0 slot should be black in color. If you put it into one of the blue colored USB slots (USB 3.0) then the update will not work. It's typically the second USB slot from the bottom, just to be extra clear. Once you do that, turn the DisplayTen back on, press and hold the power button, and wait until the logo flashes. You should be able to let go now and the update will complete all by itself. Typical time is about 5-10 minutes.
You will know it is going when you see a progress bar and a robot on the screen. If you don't see this after the logo flashes, proceed to the insider tips below to see if that helps.
- If for any reason the USB 2.0 slot on the back doesn't work, use the slot on the front bezel. Depending on your model (older vs newer) it could be either/or.
- Whatever drive you use during the update, it must be formatted in FAT32.
- If all else fails, contact us, and we will walk you through it.
How do I Unzip a file?
To unzip a file or folder on a Mac, double-click it.
To open a zipped file on a PC, drag the .zip attachment to your computer. Once the file is on the desktop, you can double- or right-click to open it.
Double-click the zipped file to see its contents. When prompted, drag the files out of the window to the desired location or click Extract All. When you click Extract All, the files are unzipped in the same location as the original file unless you specify a different one in the Select a Destination window.
Next, drag the "iip" folder onto your thumb drive. If you need help with this, call your nearest technically savvy person. If they aren't around, we will help you.
